Sedation Dentistry
Using various sedation techniques, we make painless dental work a reality.
Novocain
Novocain is a local anesthetic, meaning that it will numb a specific area of your mouth. This can prevent pain or discomfort during routine dental procedures. As the numbing effects wear off after your appointment, be cautious not to bite your tongue or cheek while eating.
Nitrous Oxide
For an additional cost, nitrous oxide (A.K.A. Laughing Gas) is the safest option for patients who require additional sedation. This is a great option for patients with dental phobia, who need help relaxing in the dental chair. Nitrous oxide is a type of conscious sedation, meaning that you will be awake during the procedure. It also wears off quickly, so you will be able to drive home after the procedure.
Oral Medications for Sedation
This is the most intensive sedation that we perform at the office. This is typically used for patients with extreme dental phobia or patients with extensive treatment done at once. For this method of sedation, an oral sedation medication will be given the night before and the morning of the appointment to completely relax the patient during the procedure. It is the patient’s responsibility to arrange transportation to and from the appointment, because they will not be able to drive. During the appointment, we strive to create a relaxed an comfortable environment. The majority of patients do not remember the appointment once the sedation wears off.
